Processor Layers

0:00 / 5:17

Processor Layers reference Input Maps from the texture project, such as Curvature or Ambient Occlusion, to help you easily create complex and convincing weathering. These are of great use as mask layers and when building Smart Masks, but they can also be used as regular layers and have additional settings in Material Properties.

Color Selection #

The Color Selection layer allows you to create a mask based on Material ID, Group ID, Object ID, or UV Island input maps. This is primarily used to mask separate mesh parts containing different material definitions.

SettingDescription
SourceSelect the input map to generate the selection. An appropriate input map must be loaded in the texture project for this to function.
ColorEdit the color for this entry.
Color DropperChoose the color to sample from.
ThresholdSets the color-matching sensitivity.
DeleteRemove this color selection entry.
Add NewAdd a color selection entry.

Curvature #

The Curvature processor references the Curvature input map and helps to define the convexities and concavities of the mesh, making it useful when needing to mask or define borders and cavities.

SettingDescription
IntensitySets the strength of the curvature processor.
Invert IconInverts the curvature processor.
ContrastSets the contrast of the curvature processor.
Contrast CenterSets the middle point of the contrast effect.
SharpenSets the sharpness or softness of the details.
Edge IntensitySets the strength of the edges or convex regions.
Edge ThicknessSets the width of the convex regions.
Cavity IntensitySets the strength of the cavities or concave regions.
Cavity Thickness Sets the width of the concave regions.

Direction #

The Direction processor layer references the normal input map and is useful for adding direction-based details such as snow, ice, dust, leaks, and more.

SettingDescription
Direction AxisSets which direction axis to use.
IntensitySets the strength of the direction processor.
Invert IconInverts the direction processor.
ContrastSets the contrast of the direction processor.
Contrast CenterSets the middle point of the contrast effect.
SharpenSets how sharp or blurry the details are.

Dirt #

The Dirt processor references the Normal, Curvature, and Ambient Occlusion input maps. You can add a custom texture or a grunge map from the Library to create dust or dirt in the mesh cavities.

SettingDescription
IntensitySets the strength of the dirt processor.
Invert IconInverts the dirt processor.
ContrastSets the global contrast of the dirt processor.
SharpnessSets how sharp or blurry the details are.
Grunge MapClick to load or replace a texture map for the grunge effect.
Tri-PlanarEnable tri-planar mode for seamless texture projection.
Grunge Blend ModeSets how the grunge map is blended in relation to the other components of the dirt processor.
Grunge IntensitySets the strength for the grunge texture.
Grunge InvertInverts the grunge texture.
Grunge ContrastSets the contrast of the grunge texture.
Grunge ScaleSets the tiling for the grunge texture.
Direction IntensitySets the strength of the direction effect, which isolates regions facing up and down.
Direction InvertInverts the direction effect.
Direction ContrastSets the contrast of the direction effect.
Crevice IntensitySets the strength of the crevices or concave areas, which is useful for defining where dirt or grime should appear on the micro-scale.
Crevice ContrastAdjusts the contrast of the crevice effect.
Occlusion IntensitySets the strength of the occluded areas, which is useful for defining where dirt or grime should appear on the macro scale.
Occlusion ContrastSets the contrast of the occluded areas.
Reset DefaultsResets to the original settings for this layer.

Height #

The Height processor layer references the Height input map and helps to define the displacement of the mesh, making it useful when needing to mask or define height detail.

SettingDescription
IntensitySets the strength of the height processor.
Invert IconInverts the height processor.
ContrastSets the contrast of the height processor.
Contrast CenterSets the contrast for the height processor.
SharpenSets the sharpness or softness of the details.

Occlusion #

The Occlusion processor references the Ambient Occlusion input map and helps define the lighted and shaded areas of the mesh, making it useful when masking or defining cavities.

SettingDescription
IntensitySets the strength of the occlusion processor.
Invert IconInverts the occlusion processor.
ContrastSets the contrast of the occlusion processor.
Contrast CenterSets the contrast for the occlusion processor.
SharpenSets the softness or sharpness of the occlusion details.

Scratch #

The Scratch processor references both Curvature and Ambient Occlusion input maps. It includes a Grunge Map slot to break the edges and a Scratch Map slot to add extra details.

SettingDescription
IntensitySets the strength of the scratch processor.
Invert IconInverts scratch dirt processor.
ContrastSets the global contrast of the scratch processor.
SharpnessSets the softness or sharpness of the grunge details.
Occlusion IntensitySets the strength of the occluded areas, which is useful for defining where dirt or grime should appear on the macro scale.
Occlusion ContrastSets the contrast of the occluded areas.
Grunge MapClick to load or replace a texture map for the grunge effect.
Grunge Tri-PlanarEnable tri-planar mode for seamless texture projection.
Grunge Blend ModeSets how the grunge map is blended in relation to the other components of the scratch processor.
Grunge IntensitySets the strength for the grunge texture.
Grunge InvertInverts the grunge texture.
Grunge ContrastSets the contrast of the grunge texture.
Grunge ScaleSets the tiling for the grunge texture.
Scratch MapClick to load or replace a texture map for the scratch effect.
Scratch Tri-PlanarEnable tri-planar mode for seamless texture projection.
Scratch Blend ModeSets how the scratch map is blended in relation to the other components of the scratch processor.
Scratch IntensityAdjusts the intensity of the scratch texture.
Scratch InvertInverts the scratch texture.
Scratch ContrastSets the contrast of the scratch texture.
Scratch ScaleSets the tiling for the scratch texture.
Scratch Edge IntensitySets the strength of the edges or convex regions.
Scratch Edge ThicknessSets the width of the convex regions.
Scratch Edge ContrastSets the contrast of the convex regions.
Reset DefaultsResets the original settings for this layer.

Thickness #

The Thickness processor references the Thickness input map and helps define the thickness of mesh parts, making it useful when defining areas that include subsurface scattering.
